Best Time to Travel to Turkey

Turkey is easily known as the capital of the world because of its stunning beauty, location, and blend of Asian and European cultures. Although Turkey is usually a late summer destination due to the cold, you can visit Turkey all year round depending on your interests. Turkey is the 37th largest country in the world, and due to its vast size, weather varies widely across the country. While one part of the country is very cold at any given time, another part is enjoying a great summer on the beach.

Turkey experiences extreme climates, so it can get very cold in winter and very hot in midsummer. Therefore, late summer, spring and autumn are the best climates to visit Turkey, allowing you to roam freely without being in the way of the weather.

Best Time to See the Aegean and Mediterranean Coasts

Most of the companies in these coastal areas operate under the official summer regulations for inbound flights. It runs from May to October, then the flight schedule switches to the winter version.

For this reason, most small resorts like Didim, Gumbet or Olu Deniz are quiet from November to April. Some hotels, bars and restaurants are closing, and you'll also find a lack of amenities, a lack of clean beaches at some resorts, and temporary weather. With an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, if you want a typical sun, sea and sand holiday, don't plan to visit the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts in winter.

Turkey Travel Time

Peak season (May to September): Hot and dry months are the peak season, autumn is mainly in summer, but also in late spring. July and August are the peak of the hot season. Then the weather temperature is often around 30°C, and can even reach above 40°C. While this is a great time to enjoy al fresco dining and take advantage of the beach, crowds can be dense and the longest of the year. Accommodation and airfare prices are also the highest. During peak season, September is my preferred travel time.

Mid-season (April, October to mid-November): Turkey's mid-season is a great time to be here, and April may be the best month for tulip blooms. While tourists come all year round, the crowds are not too high and the temperatures, especially in April and the first half of October, should be comfortable. This is also a good time to look for discounts on airfare.

Low season (mid-November to March): Winter is Turkey's low season, which begins unofficially in November, when the weather changes significantly, with cooler temperatures and a high chance of rain or snow. Now is a great time to avoid crowds and long lines while enjoying more affordable travel with cheaper airfares and discounted overnight rates. Just bring a warm waterproof jacket, waterproof boots, hat, etc. to make sure you pack properly in cold, wet weather.
