Best Places to Buy Real Estate in Turkey

If you've already visited Turkey on vacation, you probably know where to buy property. If not, the good news is that many areas have an impressive mix of apartments and villas to choose from. However, one aspect to keep in mind is the regional differences in prices. For example, a brand new two-bedroom apartment in Kalkan costs around £90,000, while a brand new two-bedroom apartment in the Aegean resort Fethiye is half that price.

Certain regions within Turkey have also become popular destinations for foreign buyers, mainly due to excellent infrastructure, easy airport access and Western-style attitudes. Most of these areas are concentrated around Istanbul and on the Aegean and West Coasts. Let us understand them in further detail.

Istanbul: As an economic, financial and tourist center, Istanbul is certainly Turkey's largest city and a popular destination for expats to work. Of course, the perk of living in such a big city is the vibrant shopping, nightlife, arts and cultural scene. With two airports and one nearing completion, flights to and from Istanbul are frequent.

Bodrum: This cosmopolitan destination is a favorite among Westernized Turks and foreigners of all nationalities. The peninsula is made up of smaller resort towns, some of which, such as Yalikavak and Turgutreis, have become popular expat havens. The peninsula is served by its own airport, and part of its popularity can be attributed to the abundance of cheap and luxury apartments and villas.

Didim: This town has mainly caught the attention of British holidaymakers and expats. Development and infrastructure lag considerably behind places like Bodrum, but this is reflected in low house prices. Another reason for the cheap price compared to other resorts is that there are still plenty of plots to build and ample real estate.

Fethiye: The peninsula has seen tremendous development in recent years as its reputation on the Turkish Riviera has soared. Comprising smaller resorts such as Calis, Hisaronu, Ovacik and Oludeniz, the city centre is a bustling district with an impressive atmosphere of shopping and lifestyle entertainment. Uzumlu District has achieved impressive development while retaining its traditional village charm. Fethiye is famous for its famous blue lagoon.

Kalkan: Property prices in this prestigious resort are generally higher as they all have sea views and there is not much land to build on. While apartments are for sale in Kalkan, the general trend is towards luxury themed villas with modern furniture, fittings and appliances.

Antalya: As the second largest tourist destination in Turkey, Antalya has all the amenities and an impressive airport. The area is divided into smaller resorts, each with its own character. Side is a historical center, while Belek is the golf capital of Turkey. Besides the city center, Alanya is another popular holiday destination for foreign home buyers, and the area attracts people of different nationalities.

Dalyan: Part of the appeal of this area is the unspoiled beauty of nature. Dalyan is famous for his Lycian rock tombs and mud baths. It is served by its own airport, and the intercity bus route runs directly through it. Home buyers tend to focus on the scenic Akaya area, which is close to the lake.
