Documents for Obtaining Turkish Citizenship

Various legal methods have recently been proposed to create multiple options for investors interested in investing in real estate or banking in Turkey in order to promote and expand the gateway of foreign investment in Turkey in front of global investors.

Therefore, over the years, there have been some changes in the law and legalization related to granting Turkish citizenship to foreign investors.

Items that have changed in the law for obtaining Turkish citizenship include the legal documents and documents that foreign investors must present in their Turkish citizenship file. Therefore, in this article, we will introduce you to the documents to obtain Turkish citizenship:

First, what are the laws for obtaining new Turkish citizenship:

In early 2022, the Turkish government amended the content of the "Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship Law" related to the purchase of real estate in Turkey regarding fees and required legal documents.

However, the most notable change in the legislation is the increase in the foreign investor’s amount from US$250,000 to US$400,000 per application, making foreign investors eligible to grant Turkish citizenship to their family members, wives and children under the age of 18.

According to economic experts, the number of naturalizations in Turkey will increase due to the rapid and continuous development of the Turkish real estate market, infrastructure and large-scale projects, especially in large cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, the capital Izmir and the blue Antalya coastal.

Second: Documents required to obtain Turkish citizenship:

1. Title deed or sales deed stamped by a Turkish notary: The title deed is taken in Turkey from the title deed administration in the city where the property is located.
2. Property appraisal report: The property appraisal report in Turkey is valid for a maximum of 3 months from the date of grant. Real estate valuations include the actual value recorded on the title deed, grant date, and expiration date.
3. Original bank payment slip: If issued outside or within Turkey, the buyer's original bank transfer slip must be attached and stamped by the sending bank.
4. Original bank receipt: The seller's receipt must also be attached and stamped by the beneficiary bank in Turkey
5. Passport Translation: Except for accompanying persons, wives and children under the age of 18, the passport of each document owner must be translated into Turkish and notarized by a Turkish Notary Public (Notre).
6. Copy of Power of Attorney: The foreign investor gives a copy of the Power of Attorney to the agent who is entitled to apply for the Turkish citizenship document, which must be attached. The lawyer responsible for following up the naturalization documents will be the Turkish official department.

If the power of attorney is sent by a foreign embassy in a foreign language, the power of attorney must be translated and registered at a Turkish notary (notary public).

Note: All documents issued from outside Turkey must be authenticated by the foreign ministry of foreign affairs and authenticated and stamped at the Turkish embassy abroad after the owner of the document and his/her family have completed and collected all necessary legal documents.

However, it may not be possible to complete the registration of documents at Turkish embassies abroad; therefore it is only necessary to bring legal documents, translate them into Turkish and have them notarized at foreign embassies in Turkey, and then register additionally with a Turkish notary (notary public) certifying that they are Governor of Turkey.
